Match Report post Crystal Palace, 3rd March 2015

March just isn't a good month for the kaiser. Again he was whitewashed in a series, an all too common occurrence. That doesn't tell the full story of a scintillating series, filled with talking points and comebacks. At the end of the day though he is still waiting for a first win for some time.

First his Morrocco took on copse's Russia. It ended 2-1 to Russia, the result fairly comfortable in the end, the game always in control, a late consolation for the home side notwithstanding

Then Barcelona came back from conceding the first goal against Manchester City to celebrate a finely crafted 2-1 turnabout.

We saved the best until last with a ding-dong encounter between (at the time) newly promoted Saints and Reading. Kaiser's Saints scored first and were then pegged back by a great cross and finish. This pattern continued, Reading clinging on at times, but keeping pace until 3-3 was reached. At that point the copse stepped up a gear as the teams went into the second half of extra time. They looked to have won it with a fourth goal, however the kaiser had other ideas and levelled it in the 30th minute, seconds to play. Starting to relax as they were anticipating going to penalties the Saints conceded a free kick from kick off. A brilliant, quickly taken set piece routine saw a diagonal ball floated in to the near post and shinned home by Pogrebnyak, leaving the kaiser empty handed.

Fortunately the more corporeal Saints had won a slightly nervy, tired game against Crystal Palace earlier so everyone was happy!

Match Report 31st March

Beware the Ides of March one might have told the kaiser (although they are in the middle of March it just sounded dramatic). Whitewashed in a 3 - 0 series loss he continued a poor run of form to go 3 series down , on a run of 4 straight series losses with only a couple of game wins in the midst.

As is now traditional he struggled with Eto'o and Cameroon. Although he went ahead he could not prevent the equaliser, losing 4-3 on an emphatic display of penalty taking from the Cameroonians.

Subsequently he tried to wield the strike power of Athletico Madrid against Porto. Porto strolled to a comfortable 1-0 win.

The last game went best for copse. A thrilling display of scoring at will, his Levante took poor old Saints apart 5-2. Saints looked as hapless as their opponents Newcastle did the other Saturday. As Alan Hansen said, it couldn't have been easier if they had been playing against no-one.

Three series up and copse has established a decent platform on which to build.

Match Report - Sunday 23rd March 2014

Business as usual as copse sailed to a 3-1 win over the kaiser. Unfortunately there was a break for the kaiser after a 6 match losing streak, but copse has a 3 series winning run in the bag.

Firstly kaiser's Liverpool braved AC Milan. A fiercely fought match was decided when Balotelli was felled in the box, slotting home the resultant penalty.

Next up came the win for kaiser, of course he needed the help of the best team in the game - Barcelona. They easily beat Real Madrid as two Madrid players were sent off for innocuous looking challenges. Funnily after the sendings off  Madrid held out without conceding, and came close to replying. Copse's suspicions were raised when the referee was seen leaving the Barcelona changing room laughing, waving a large wad of cash, and driving off in a Ferrari.

Of course when the chips are down the kaiser struggles with lesser skilled teams and so it proved when his Kuwait took on Angola. Angola dominated possession but could only squeeze out a 1-0 win.

A similar scoreline resulted from copse's Man City taking on bitter rivals United. Although United looked like a bunch of drunks picked up in the local park, City struggled to capitalise on their weakness beyond a solitary goal. Still, a win's a win.

So, two series up and counting - where will the kaiser get his inspiration?

The start of a Moyesian Slump for the kaiser?

On 19th March we experienced the real start of the New World Order. A triple defeat, with no answers, awaited the good kaiser. Despite opening scoring twice, and having home advantage, he had no answer for copse's fluent skillage overdose.

Firstly kaiser's Morocco took on copse's Cameroon. A good start lead to a typical bundle from close range. Fortunately for kaiser, copse was able to prevent the typical interminable build-up play going on too long or the home crowd could well have turned on it's own. Towards the end of the second half a brace of headers scored from identikit crosses from the wing went in as the forwards easily gave the defence the slip. Kaiser huffed and puffed but could gain no traction, another header and then a finely pitched lob from Eto'o putting him out of his misery 1-4.

A trickier match came from Olympique Lyonnais vs Fulham. This ended 1-1 after some decent play from both sides, though copse clearly had the better of the chances. Penalties had to decide the result, with good saves from copse's keeper keeping kaiser out twice to leave the score at 1-1 (2-4 pen.). The penalty hoodoo is really starting to bite kaiser.

When Tottenham come out you know kaiser is determined to pull it back. However on this occasion even Gareth Bale and Aaron Lennon could not make an impact and Spurs did not even manage a shot on target as Chelsea kept their boot on the throat. The 1-0 scoreline flattered Tottenham considerably, John Terry finishing like a striker from a disguised cutback. Profligate finishing from copse let 5 other decent chances go missing.

What next for the kaiser? Two series and five games in a row lost. One series down now in the modern era. Time to apply for the manager's job at Old Trafford?

Match Report - 10th March 2014

An exciting series on 10/03/2014 culminated in a win for copse as kaiser were defeated 3-1. Finally the kaiser manager had to admit that the best team had won, and that the eternal series was now brought level in the modern era.

The first match pitted Everton against Newcastle. No match for copse's Newcastle, kaiser's Everton folded rapidly once a quickfire brace of headers slammed home. A couple more goals from the fast breaking copse completed kaiser's misery, alleviated only by a Fellaini header flukily knocked in from a corner - it looked to be the only way they would poke home.

Then copse's China pipped kaiser's Bolivia in a keenly contested match that China won by a single well plotted goal.

When kaiser brings out Barcelona you can tell he's getting desperate. However the tactic worked, bringing a narrow 2-1 win in a game forgettable apart from one of the most amusing own goals of recent years. The Barcelona keeper took the ball from a defender and promptly decided to dribble the ball into his own net under no pressure at all. 'I just forgot which way I was supposed to play' said Valdes afterwards. 'We're all allowed a mistake or two.' copse's Real Madrid struggled for form in the midfield and could not break down Barcelona otherwise.

Finally kaiser's Turkey took on copse's Cameroon. After a pulsating start Turkey and Cameroon had one apiece in an even match. As Et'oo broke through on goal a Turkish player cynically hacked him down in a challenge that would have been common assault anywhere off the pitch. Turkey rightfully a man down, both teams needed to make changes. Fortunately for football, M'Bia made the breakthrough with a great turn under pressure from two defenders, back to goal, to thunder the ball into the top right corner and seal the series win.

Well done copse!
